Fourth World
created by Jack Kirby -
Jack Kirby's Fourth World is a turn of phrase commonly
attributed to a family of titles created in the 1970s by
writer/illustrator Jack Kirby. When Jack Kirby returned
to working for DC Comics in the 1970s, he introduced what would
become known as the Fourth World concept. He created a
science-fiction based mythology revolving around ancient space
deities known as the New Gods. Similar to the gods of Earth
lore, the New Gods were larger than life, possessing fantastic
powers, which they used in a never-ending struggle between good and
evil. Fourth World characters include Steppenwolf
and Darkseid. (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Jack_Kirby%27s_Fourth_World)

DISCUSSION NOTES
- What was the overall theme?
- Getting the band together
- (Unlike Marvel, they don't call themselves the Justice
League)
- Basic plot
- Steppenwolf has been able to come back to Earth and
wants to find the three mother boxes; once the boxes are united,
the world can be conquered and
- The past
- Steppenwolf tried to conquer Earth before, but the united
armies of Amazons (with help from the Gods), Atlanteans, humans,
and Green Lanterns beat him (LotRstyle). They spilt the Mother
Boxes, hiding and protecting them. One is in Atlantis, one is
on Themyscira, and the humans buried the
third.
- Bruce Wayne / Batman
- Been Batman for 20 years – getting tired
- Feels guilty about Superman's death
- Uses guy's fear to lure a creature (find out later it's
a Parademon)
- Need to recruitothers to fight
invasion
- Comes up with plan to resurrect Superman; the world needs hope
and the team needs more firepower
- What's his super power? Being rich; him being the only regular
human is brought up throughout the film
- Gives Flash confidence to be a hero
- Relies heavily on Alfred
- Buys bank that took the Kent's farm
- Diana Prince / Wonder Woman
- Works in a museum; does the Wonder Woman thing when needed, but
is not public about it
- Paris: Uses lasso to learn plan, stops bullets, tosses bomb in
air, comes back, stops more bullets, saves day
- Themyscira: Steppenwolf
invades, Hippolytagets Mother Box out, locks warriors in room,
more fighting, but Steppenwolf gets box. Hippolyta lights the
beacon, knowing Diana will realize what's going on. (The beacons
are lit, Gondor calls for aid!)
- Still hurt by losing Steve Trevor
- Reluctant team leader
- Still a badass fighter; Steppenwolf notices she has the blood
of the Old Gods in her
- Aquaman/ Arthur Curry
- Sexy, sexy, sexy! - This is not how Aquamanis
traditionally seen
- Helps village
- Turns down Bruce
- Senses something is wrong, goes to where Mother Box is
kept
- Atlantis: Steppenwolf
invades; Merafights him – water
witch! Steppenwolf gets Mother Box. Mera tells
Arthur that it's his job to get the box back since his mother is
gone.
- Sense of humor; drinks; fights – has quadrant
- Scene on plane to final fight – accidentally sits on lasso,
tells deep truths
- Cyborg/ Victor Stone
- Didn't ask to be saved
- Doesn't have full control of
abilities; continuouslychanging
- Dad works at Star Labs; used the third Mother Boxto make
him Cyborg
- Learns who Diana and Bruce are
- Able to "hack" into Bat vehicles and the Kryptoniandevice
to resurrect Superman
- Vital to plot – he finds third Mother Box; he is able
to split Mother Boxes apart
- The Flash/ Barry Allen
- Father in prison; lost; doesn't work in crime lab (not until "a
friend" gets him an entry level position)
- Built his suit
- Thinks it's cool that The Batman wants him to join a team
- Decides to join because he needs friends; he doesn't "get"
people
- Doubts he can be a hero - (Batman: just save one, Barry)
- Stumbles over his feet
- Funny and quippy (resurrect Superman: hope this isn't a Pet
Cemetery situation)
- Scene in cemeterywith Cyborg: he was hit by lightning;
says they are the "accidents"
- Superman/ Clark Kent
- Missed by world
- Mom loses farm; Lois lost
- Resurrection: Body dug up, body put in amnioticfluid
in Kryptonian ship, Barry has to jump start the cube
right as it hits the fluid
- Not happy about being brought back to life
- Fight: Team tries to talk him back, but Cyborg's system
overreacts and attacks Superman. Big fight. Sees Flash come for
him; able to fight Flash. Chokes Batman, ready to kill him; Batman
calls for the "big gun," which is Lois. Flies away with Lois to
farm.
- Joins fight in a big way
- Saves an entire building – Barry saves one family in the
truck
- RESURRECTED SUPERMAN IS THE SUPERMAN WE SHOULD HAVE HAD SINCE
THE BEGINNING!
- Laughs, jokes, smiles. Is hope.
- Steppenwolf
- Stop the alien invader story
- Good villain to bring team together?
- His fear makes his Parademonsattack him and he
leaves
- Rate him as a threat -
- Imagine A Green Lantern or a Supergirlin this fight
too
- Post credit scene 1
- Flash and Superman race – straight from the comics!
- Post credit scene 2
- Lex is out of prison, chilling on a yacht in Europe.
- Lex is smooth and smart; he's not the wacky boy from
before
- Someone arrives by boat – it's Mr. Wilson!
- Lex - Maybe we should have our own league
- Favorite moment(s)
- SP -
- Chris -Flash and Supes race or headbutt
fight
- Michelle – Wonder Woman saving people in Paris, Wonder Woman
being vital to the fights – using lasso, sword,
and gauntlets
- What didn't you like?
- SP -
- Chris -Outing the secret ID of Supes and
Batman and runtime
- Michelle – Butt shots (but I think it could've been worse),
bikini armor on some of the Amazons, Henry Cavill's weird CGI
face
- What did you like about the film?
- SP -
- Chris –THEY FIXED SUPERMAN!
- Michelle – the humor and that all of the team was needed; it
wasn't the Batman and Superman show with some other people
- Lingering questions:
- SP -
- Chris -Where do we go with batman now?
- Michelle – WHERE ARE THE GREEN LANTERNS???????????
- Rate the movie
- SP -
- Chris -
- Michelle – Not better than Wonder Woman, but better than the
Academy Award Winning Suicide Squad
- Would you like a sequel?
- SP -
- Chris -
- Michelle – Yes, but with Batman and Alfred as Watchtower
- Are you excited about other DC films?
- SP -
- Chris -
- Michelle – Aquamanbecause Momoa is wonderful and
it seems as though Mera will have magic and be
from Xebel. And Wonder Woman, duh
